Training

Training provides athletes with the opportunity to improve their skills, technique and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

Sessions are available during the Little Athletics season for registered Prestons Robins athletes. Training is optional, but recommended for athletes who would like extra coaching outside of Friday night competitions.

**Parents or carers must remain at the venue for the entire training session.**


Why Attend Training?

Training helps athletes:

  • Learn correct running and event techniques
  • Improve speed, strength and fitness
  • Build confidence
  • Prepare for Friday night competitions
  • Develop skills in a fun team environment

Whether your child is new to athletics or aiming for Championships, training is designed to help every athlete improve at their own pace.


Our Coaches

Training is delivered by accredited Athletics Australia coaches and experienced club volunteers who provide guidance in a positive and encouraging environment.

Sprint & Middle Distance

Our Athletics Australia accredited coaches conduct weekly training sessions focusing on:

  • Sprint technique
  • Starts and acceleration
  • Middle distance running

Training groups may be split by age and ability to ensure athletes receive appropriate coaching.


Race Walk

Race Walk coaching is available for athletes wishing to learn or improve their technique.

Sessions are conducted by an accredited Race Walk coach and are suitable for athletes competing in Race Walk events throughout the season.

Training Times

Training days and times are confirmed each season and then week to week.

Sprint, Middle Distance & Hurdles

Venue: Ash Road Sporting Complex, Prestons

Age Group Time
8s–11s 5:30pm – 6:15pm
12s–U20s 6:15pm – 7:15pm

Race Walk

Race Walk training sessions are held at Ash Road Sporting Complex.

Training days and times will be advised throughout the season.


Who Can Attend?

Training is available to:

  • Registered Prestons Robins athletes
  • Age Groups 8s to U20 athletes (event dependent)
  • Athletes wanting to improve technique and performance

Training is not compulsory and athletes are welcome to attend as often as they wish during the season.


What to Bring

Please bring:

  • Club uniform or suitable sports clothing
  • Running shoes or athletics spikes (where appropriate)
  • Water bottle
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • A positive attitude!
