Orientation Night
Friday, 4 September 2026
6.30pm
Ash Road Sporting Complex, Prestons
We recommend arriving by 6.20pm so athletes are ready to go.
What Happens on Orientation Night?
Orientation Night is your opportunity to get familiar with PRLAC before our first competition night.
We will cover:
- Where to go when you arrive
- How athletes are grouped by age
- How marshalling and events work
- What happens during Friday night competition
- The new events being introduced to the U11 program
- What athletes should bring each week
- How parents can help at events
- Important safety and ground rules
Our committee and volunteers will be available throughout the night to answer questions and help new families find their way around.
Where Do I Go?
Athletes should make their way to the Marshalling Area near the end of the Long Jump pits.
Marshalling starts at 6.30pm
We recommend arriving by 6.20pm to allow enough time to park, make your way onto the field and find your age group.
Please stay with your age group and listen carefully to instructions from Age Managers and officials.
Parents – We Need You Too!
Prestons Robins Little Athletics is run by volunteers, and our Friday night competitions rely on parents and families getting involved.
You don’t need any previous experience.
Throughout the evening, our Age Managers and committee members will guide parents on how they can assist with events.
There are plenty of ways to help, including:
- Recording results
- Measuring jumps and throws
- Helping with equipment
- Assisting at events
- Walking athletes between events
- Supporting our Age Managers
No experience necessary!
We’ll show you what to do.
And the best part?
Your kids will love seeing you involved!
A few extra helping hands make a huge difference to the night for everyone.

- Watch for children moving around the grounds and car park.
- Keep children close and supervise them around vehicles.
- Allow extra time to park and get to marshalling.
The safety of our athletes, families, volunteers and neighbours is everyone’s responsibility.
Your First Competition Night
After Orientation Night, we’re ready to get started!
Friday, 11 September 2026 at 6.30pm
Ash Road Sporting Complex
This will be our first competition night of the 2026/27 season and the first night of our 2-week trial (Trial nights are 11 & 18 September 2026).
If you’re new, don’t worry if everything doesn’t make sense straight away. There will be plenty of people around to help.
Stay with your age group, listen to your Age Manager and ask questions when you’re unsure.
What to Expect During the 2-Week Trial
Our 2-week trial is a great opportunity for new athletes to experience Little Athletics before committing to the season.
However, with a large number of trial athletes, parents and families on the field, the first two weeks can be very busy.
Please be patient and prepared.
During the trial period:
- There will be lots of athletes, parents and families around the field.
- Events may take longer than usual.
- Please stay with your age group.
- Listen carefully when instructions are given.
- Be patient while athletes are marshalled and events are organised.
- Allow extra time for the evening to finish.
- Please follow the directions of our Age Managers, officials and volunteers.
The first two weeks can take a little longer due to the large numbers. We appreciate everyone’s patience while athletes and families learn how Friday night competition works.
Once everyone settles into their age groups and routines, Friday nights become much smoother.
